This life is often compared to a Sea:
Jesus pillowed his head in peaceful sleep while
the storm tossed the small ship in a turbulent sea. He awoke and
calmed the raging sea.
Jesus caught the wavering Peter as he sank into
the Sea.
These are powerful reminders of God's power over
the trials in our lives. He has the ability to save us in the
midst of the crashing waves and the struggles we face as Christians.
God is watching as we sail on this sea of life.
God sees our attempts to chart our own course, pilot our own ship,
and ultimately "save our own self", as we try to reach
the Shore on our own accord.
Yet only God can properly guide our lives and
pilot us safely to "the other side." Yet we must yield
the helm to Him.
"Thou shalt Guide me with Thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee." (Ps.73:24f)
Amid the trials and persecutions, there may be
times when we will sink in this sea, but Christ is there to catch
us when we call out to Him.
My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the
strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. (v26)
How sad to think of those who deliberately turn
from God with the idea that, "sink or swim", they will
go through life on their own. Ultimately, they will sink into
a sea of destruction and torment.
For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish:
thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee. (v27)
God's Word is there to help us chart our course,
and through His Word He will lead us in the way that we are to
go.
Is this what we want? Do we want to give Him the
helm of our life? Do we want to draw near to God in an appropriate
manner (James 4:7ff)?
Do we want to put our trust in Him?
If we do, He may lead in ways that is full of
trials and persecution. Are we willing to have faith in Him, even
if he is sleeping soundly in the "boat"?
If we are willing, our life will declare that
as a Christian
We are using a different Map....
But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have
put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.
(v28)
As Christians, we are not promised
