Psalms 1:3 says that the godly person will be
like a tree planted by the rivers of waters, That brings forth
its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither, and
whatsoever he does shall prosper.
Be Like A Green Olive Tree
In Psalms 52:8 the righteous man is contrasted
to the wicked man. The godly man is said to be "like a green
olive tree in the house of God, trusting in the mercy of God forever
and ever."
He is green, not brown! He is alive, not dead!
What significance would a green olive tree be
in the house of God? Let's consider for a moment the fruit of
a green olive tree. Except for the once-mentioned oil of myrrh,
all scriptural references to oil are to olive oil. The Hebrews
put this product to a variety of uses. It was an article of food,
serving the purpose of butter, a cosmetic, a fuel for lamps, and
a healing agent. It was also an ingredient of the meal offering.
Oil was an important article of commerce. From this list of uses,
then, one can easily see how valuable the green olive tree was.
Are you a green olive tree in the house of God?
Be Like A Palm Tree
The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree,
He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those who are planted in
the house of the LORD Shall flourish in the courts of our God.
They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and
flourishing, To declare that the LORD is upright; He is my rock,
and there is no unrighteousness in Him. (Psalm 92:12-15)
Be A Tree Of Righteousness
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because
the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; ........To
console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit
of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified. (Isaiah 61:1-3)
Don't Be A Shrub In The Desert
Thus says the LORD: 'Cursed is the man who trusts
in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from
the LORD. 6 For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall
not see when good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places
in the wilderness, In a salt land which is not inhabited.' (Jeremiah
17:5)
Be Like A Tree Planted By The Waters
Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And
whose hope is the LORD. For he shall be like a tree planted by
the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will
not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will
not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding
fruit. (Jeremiah 17:7-8)
Be Like A Tree Whose Water Flows From The Sanctuary
Along the bank of the river, on this side and
that, will grow all kinds of trees used for food; their leaves
will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. They will bear
fruit every month, because their water flows from the sanctuary.
Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for medicine. (Ezekiel
47:12)
*********
A thought for you to ponder as you go about your
busy day: What is the significance of the water that flows from
the sanctuary? If these trees are a symbol for godly people, then
how will their fruit be for food and their leaves for medicine?
As we examine our lives, are we producing fruit that nourishes
the souls of others? Do we yield a healing fruit?
