Priceville Church of Christ, Priceville, Al 11/10/2011    NEW!!!
(Just Outside Decatur, AL)

Our elders want me to initiate a search to find a youth minister to work part-time with our young people.  We will be flexible to work with the person's schedule because they need to have outside employment, but we will be able to provide them weekly compensation.  Ideally, we would like someone 20-25, full of energy, and, most importantly, with a heart for the Savior.  They would be expected to help out in our Bible class program on Sundays, conduct our youth group sessions on Wednesdays, organize periodic devos and activities for the kids both from the congregation and from the community, organize and take the kids to the Area Wide Youth Devotionals and other church-wide youth activities, lead singing and fully participate in our worship duty roster rotation.

Priceville has never had anything like this, so it will be a great chance to get in at the ground floor and help start something worthwhile.  Priceville has more than doubled in membership in the last five years and we are expecting continued growth.  We recently began a "step by step" project to renovate our church building, classrooms, and fellowship hall.  Our building is located just off I-65 Exit 334, the first exit south of the Tennessee River between Decatur and Huntsville, Alabama.  As we grow, the position will grow.

If interested, please contact me by email at michaelwrhodes@gmail.com.

Thanks,
Mike Rhodes

Greetings Brethren,

The church of Christ that meets at 1825 Fulton Road in the city of Santa Rosa, California in beautiful Sonoma County, is looking for a gospel preacher (preferably) full time.

We are looking for a person who can share a mindset of “beginning a new work” rather than just coming to continue the existence of a congregation of God’s people.  This would take an energetic person who is ready to prepare and ‘rally the troops’ for Christ’s work.  Since we do not have elders, decisions concerning our congregation are made at the men’s business meeting. The men have envisioned the preacher preparing lessons for Sunday morning and evening and teaching Bible class on Sunday morning or Wednesday evening. He would also hold individual Bible studies with prospective and/or new members with the assistance of our members. Being able to motivate the members and leading by example in personal work is an attribute the men feel is essential along with Bible based lessons. Being able to reach out to, and communicate with the young people in our community is a definite attribute we are seeking in our preacher.

We have a Spanish-speaking congregation that also meets in the building.  Most of that group attend our English Bible classes and worship services as well as their own.

If interested in this position, please send your resume along with the completed attached questionnaire. From those we wish to consider further, we will request a recording or video of one of your recent sermons or lessons. If you live within 2 hours or so of our location and would consider driving here, we can schedule a time for you to preach in person and fellowship with us.

Financial compensation is open for negotiation depending on agreed to hours, experience and abilities.

Please contact us at...

Brethren,

My deepest gratitude goes to brother Harold for allowing me to post this. I will be attending Northwest Florida School of Biblical Studies, beginning the 28th of November. (Lord willing, of course!) I am in need of support, as most of you can well understand. I will have absolutely no debt, with the exception of gratitude, by the time I move there from Elkmont, Alabama; but I will of course have normal living expenses while there for the next two years. My wife has a housecleaning business; but when she and my children move down to join me next summer, that will end.

I am 43 years old and have worked for UPS for the last 22 years. After two back surgeries, I am no longer able to do that kind of work. My original plan, dating back about 8 years, was to attend a school of preaching after I retired in 12-14 more years and then spend the rest of my time on earth preaching the gospel. Circumstance, or dare I say providence, has moved that time table up somewhat. Because I will lose those extra 12-14 years of a very good income, I will not be able to support my family during my studies at NWFSBS.

If you, your home congregation or someone else you may know would be interested in helping, we would greatly appreciate it. feel free to call me @ (256)278-8819, or you may email me at phillipselkmont@aol.com

Brother Harold Bigham can attest to the soundness and goodness of the school; his son is a graduate of it. I will gladly and quickly provide references and/or any information that you may desire.

In Christian love,
Wade Phillips

Dear Brethren,

Those of you who know me, know that the first ten years of my work in full time ministry was in the mission fields of South Georgia. Now, after many years absent from South Georgia work, I have made a decision to return to the field.

The State of Georgia Still a Mission Field

Although the preaching of restoration Christianity has been in Georgia for close to 200 years, the state is still largely a mission field for Churches of Christ. At last estimate, there were 162 counties in Georgia with congregations. However, in each of these the average memberships of these churches were 50 or less. Two of these counties, which had congregations in the past, have closed their doors, Jenkins County and Sylvania/Screven County. During the next six months, we are taking a hard look at reviving the work in Sylvania, Screven county Georgia.

Screven County Georgia was the 14th county formed in Georgia, and was named for Revolutionary War General James Screven. Created in 1793 from parts of Burke and Effingham counties, parts of the original county later formed Bulloch and Jenkins counties. At present the county population is 15,374. Sylvania is the county seat.

Church in Sylvania

The church of Christ was established in Sylvania, Georgia in 1975 by Brother Barry Hatcher, with the support of the Green Hills church in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. Brother Hatcher remained in the work until 1979, at which time John Key assumed work with the congregation until January of 1981 when I went to Sylvania. I remained in the work until December of 1982 and left in order to go to graduate school. Since that time various ministers have worked with the congregation, most of which were supported by the Green Hills church until the late 90s. From the late 1990s until around 2004, the congregation had ministers driving in from Savannah, GA in order to fill the pulpit on Sundays.. However, this ended in 2004 and the church closed its doors. .

The first work of this new mission effort is to determine the feasibility of reviving the church of Christ in Sylvania. In order to achieve this goal a personal visit must be made to Sylvania and two things need to take place: (1) An complete examination of the current church property must be conducted in order to determine if the property could still be used for a meeting house; (2) Attempts should be made to contact current church members to determine what, if any, interest they have in reviving the Sylvania congregation.

The meeting place in Sylvania is a small house that was converted into a church building in the late 70s. The house is still there, the sign still standing, but just exactly what condition it is in remains to be seen. Thus, not only will we look at the property but will have a painstaking examination conducted on the property in order to determine what amount of work must be done to allow us to use it again.

My Interest in the Work

My interest in the work stems from my previous association with it. From January of 1981 through December of 1982, I ministered with the Sylvania church. At the time I started there were four of us in regular attendance on Sunday mornings (myself, my wife and daughter and one other member-sister Sally Rice). At the time we left the work, our attendance was averaging 35 on Sunday mornings. In the short two year period I was there, I baptized several people (10 people I can recall from memory) and four people were restored. Thus, the work was on a good footing and we left on good terms (I left the work in order to go to graduate school). It is for this reason that I have an interest in accessing the work and, if it is deemed reasonable to do so, resume ministry with the work.

Current Needs

I’m pleased to report that the *Community church of Christ in Union City, Tennessee has graciously agreed to oversee me in this effort. The congregation will serve as a “clearing house” for all funds raised and will keep track of the progress or lack thereof that we make. Our present needs are for funding.  We need to raise a total of $2,000 per month.

We are looking for congregations and/or individuals who will make contributions to help us in this worthy cause. Whether you can make a commitment of a monthly contribution (in any amount) for six months to a year, or a onetime contribution, all is welcomed and needed at this point. Checks should be made out to the Community Church of Christ and earmarked for “Tom Atkinson” or “Georgia Mission work.” Send to: Community church of Christ PO Box 271 Union City, TN 38281-0271  (Note: the Community church of Christ is just the name of the congregation.  We are in now way or fashion associated  with the so-called "community church" movement).

Thank you for your consideration. I also thank you for your prayers as those are needed most of all. May God bless always.

Sincerely,

Tom Atkinson
