I have written this article about my grandson
in the hope that you could print it in your paper. As I read about
the fine young man you wrote about in the June issue of West
Virginia Christian, I thought, "Why not write about another
fine young man, my grandson, Tyler Cornell."
Tyler was baptized into Christ by Bro. Garland
Elkins at the Seth Church of Christ and attended services there
until his graduation from Sherman High School at Seth. After graduation
from high school, he enrolled at the University of Tennessee.
Before entering school, he and his father visited the local congregation
of the church several times, requesting that a copy of their bulletin
be sent to their home address. This was South Knoxville Church
of Christ, 4604 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, TN.
Tyler is a faithful member of this congregation
where he is a song leader and teaches various classes. These brothers
and sisters have certainly put their arms of love about this young
man and made him one of their own. They have, in all aspects,
been a wonderful spiritual family. He sits with their children,
tutors them, etc.
Tyler graduated from UT this May earning a BS
degree in Nuclear Engineering, maintaining a grade point average
of 3.67. He is employed near Knoxville, where he will make his
home. This fall he plans on returning to school to begin work
on his Masters Degree.
During these four years of all-night cramming,
exams, finals, etc., with all the problems a lot of people have
and some that no one should ever have, he persevered. He has been
faithful to the Lord. I know the kindness that has been showered
on him had a part in this faithfulness.
I pray that we, when newcomers come to our congregation,
will make them want to return.
We are all so proud of Tyler and his scholastic
achievements, but I am made more joyful by his standing with the
Lord. P.O. Box 242, Bloomingrose, WV 25024.
