The Importance of Faith

James H. Bailey, Sr.

Why were the scriptures written? They were written to produce faith. "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:17. Without faith, no one can please God. Hebrews 11:6. Faith offers substance and conviction. "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Faith is the "stand-under," the foundation, the basis, and the evidence of things not seen.

Chapter eleven of Hebrews shows the actions of faith and the results. Abel took God at his word and offered a more excellent sacrifice than Cain. By it, he obtained witness that he was righteous. Hebrews 11:4. Each mentioned example shows faith expressed, and the results were always favorable. By faith Abel pleased God. By faith Noah moved with fear and built the ark to the saving of his house. (11:7)

All of these examples should strengthen our faith to follow and to obey Him who is the author and finisher of our faith. Hebrews 12:1-2.

For understanding of the truth in any matter, we should consult the scriptures. The scriptures are the inspired word of God. 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

May we strive to live justified in Christ. James 2:24. Let us follow his example. Hebrews 5:8-9. 1205 9th St., Pleasant View Towers, Apt. 110, Vienna, WV 26105.
