"I Meant To Thank You"

Candy Berry

I meant to thank you Lord today for sending down the rain.
And I meant to thank you yesterday for I woke up without pain.

I walked a rocky gravel road amid the summer's heat,
and I really meant to thank you for the shoes upon my feet.

I saw the lovely sunshine and the flowers that it grew,
and the birds in all their beauty and I really meant to thank you.

I enjoyed a lovely sunset and the sky of azure blue,
and then the starry night appeared and I truly meant to thank you.

I gazed out toward an open field and watched nature at its best,
and I really meant to thank you as I laid my head to rest.

I made it safely through the night, and, yes, my family, too,
and when I woke to meet the day I really meant to thank you.

I felt the crisp cold winter air, as I stepped out in the 'morn,
and I really meant to thank you for the coat that kept me warm.

I saw the twinkling of a snowflake and the gentleness of a dove,
and I really meant to thank you for all the blessings from above.

But most of all I have to say your forgiveness is the best,
for all the times that I neglected to thank you for the rest!
