What Is Truth?

(John 18:38)

Jimmy Ferguson

Everything we do in life is guided by a standard. In math we understand that 1+1=2. Our standard for math is what we are guided by and graded accordingly.

What about truth? What is the standard for truth? How do we know truth?

The Bible is our standard when we are searching for the truth. God's Word is true. All of God's Word is true.

John 18:37. Jesus said He came into the world to bear witness unto the truth and everyone that is of the truth heareth His voice.

Daniel 4:37. "Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all whose works are true, and his ways judgment:"

John 14:6. Jesus tells His followers that He is the way, the truth, and the life.

John 17:17. "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth."

John 8:31, 32. "Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

Jesus, speaking in John 4:24 to the woman at the well said, "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."

God's Word (the Bible) is our guide to all truth. If someone teaches contrary to God's word, then they lie and do not the truth.

God's Word says, "... let God be true, but every man a liar ..." In other words, regardless of what is being taught, if everyone in the whole world is teaching the same thing and it is not according to God's Word, then that teaching is wrong. God's Word will always be right.

Paul tells Timothy that the church of the living God is the pillar and ground of the truth. (1 Timothy 3:15).

Study God's Word; learn the truth; and you will be free from the burdens and strife of this world and free from the lake of fire that awaits the devil and his angels at the judgment. This is my prayer. Questions and comments to HC 69 Box 1, Inez, KY 41224.
