Albert E. Farley

The ills that plague the religious world and those that presently afflict the Lord’s church would all be healed if men and women would submit to the authority of Jesus Christ. Colossians 3:16-17. Christ has been given all power in heaven and in earth. Matthew 28:18-20.

In accepting the authority of Christ, we recognize the authority He delegated to His apostles. Matthew 16:13-19. “I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” All of the apostles were given the keys of the kingdom, the church that Christ built. Matthew 18:18; John 20:23.

The church of Christ is built upon the foundation of Christ. “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 3:11. The apostles laid the foundation of the church in their preaching of the gospel of Christ into the world, even as they themselves were built upon it! Mark 16:15-16; Luke 24:45-49.

The apostles had and have a vital connection with this foundation. “According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise master builder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.” 1 Cor 3:10. So it is, therefore, that Paul wrote, “Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;” Ephesians 2:19, 20.

The apostles were guided into all truth. John 16:12, 13. All of the commandments and truths pertaining to salvation, the church, worship, godly living, marriage and divorce, etc., bound by the apostles’ preaching are bound in heaven. All of the obligations of the Law of Moses, sins, traditions, commandments of men, etc., that were loosed by the apostles’ preaching are loosed in heaven. They spoke as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:4.

Today, as the world becomes more and more wicked, and, as the Lord’s church in many places drifts farther and farther away from the doctrine of Christ, it is our purpose, with this paper, to continue steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. Acts 2:42. We commend the articles to your reading, study, and learning.

We invite you to be a part of our work through your prayers and by helping us to increase the number of our readers. Last month our circulation was 2,709. Can we achieve 2,800? –Albert.
