Tenth Annual West Virginia Christian Lectureship

Terry G. Jones

The West Virginia Christian Lectureship will be held September 13-16, 2009. The Church of Christ in Pennsboro, WV, is honored by the privilege of hosting these fine lectures for the fourth time. This year’s event has a special significance as it reaches a decade of preaching truth on a wide variety of themes and topics. From its inception in 2000 in Mannington, WV, the West Virginia Christian Lectureship has showcased an excellent brotherhood publication, upheld truth, exposed error, strengthened the church, and promoted fellowship.

The chosen theme for the lectures this year is Just A Closer Walk With Thee. With all of the current uncertainty in the world, what better time could there be to emphasize the imperatives and blessings of compliance with the will of our loving God? Twenty-five lectures will be delivered by fourteen different speakers in four days. We are very blessed to have some tremendous keynote speakers on the program. Dave Miller, Executive Director of Apologetics Press, in Montgomery, Alabama, has agreed to be with us. Brother Miller is also host of the nationally televised “The Truth In Love” program; author of several books, including Piloting The Strait; and teaches several seminars, such as, “The Silencing of God: The Dismantling of America’s Christian Heritage.”

Phil Sanders of Edmond, Oklahoma, will appear five times on the program. Phil is a preacher and associate speaker for “In Search of the Lord’s Way,” a nationally broadcasted television ministry of Edmond Church of Christ. He is a former Assistant Director and Instructor at Nashville School of Preaching and Biblical Studies and author of several books, including Adrift: Postmodernism in the Church, and Let All the Earth Keep Silence.

Charles Pugh III of Vienna, WV will also serve as a keynote speaker. Brother Pugh is a very accomplished preacher, teacher, and author. Having preached for over 40 years, Charles is one of the founders of West Virginia School of Preaching and has taught in it since its beginning. A gifted writer, he has authored several tracts, booklets, and books.

Frank Higginbotham will serve as the afternoon keynote speaker. Brother Higginbotham has filled this slot in several previous lectureships, which has been one of the highlights. He has served the Virginia Avenue church in Chester, WV, for four decades and is among the most respected preachers in the brotherhood.

Several other outstanding speakers will round out the program, including Dan Kessinger, Albert Farley, Steve Stevens, Brent Gallagher, Bob Eddy, Randy Cook, David Stevens, Andy Robison, and Terry Jones. Beth Cook, from Farmington, WV, will teach a ladies class each afternoon.

A lectureship book is being printed in paperback form again this year. The Pennsboro congregation is covering the cost for this and will be providing a free copy to each family attending the lectureship. The lectures will also be made available on CD.

Every effort is being put forth to make this a great event that glorifies God and benefits His people. All are invited to be a part of it. –PO Box 644, Pennsboro, WV 26415. terrygjones@verizon.net
