Around The State

GALLIPOLIS, OH 45631 – Last October 21st I was diagnosed with lung cancer. Immediately, I began making reservations to be treated at The James Cancer Center Hospital, Columbus, OH. A team of four doctors decided I should be treated with Radiation. From January 5th through March 18th, I made eleven trips to Columbus to receive treatment. On March 18th another X-ray was made and the doctor said my lungs looked good. During this very difficult time, I received many cards, letters, and phone calls from places where I’ve preached through the years. All were praying for my recovery. I want to express my sincere thanks to all of you who sent messages and prayers. Hopefully, you are reading West Virginia Christian and will see my note of thanks. Radiation has weakened my energy level for the next six months or more. Hopefully, I shall be able to preach at Gallipolis, OH Sunday, April 24th; Rosemar Rd., Parkersburg, WV May 10th; West Union, WV June 26th, July 17th, and Aug 7th. I will be 89 years old May 14th. –Lewis Mikell, PO Box 302.

MANSFIELD, OH 44906 – The Lord blessed our work in Mansfield during 2010 by increasing our number by five baptisms. Unfortunately, we lost one dear brother who died in August. There have been other signs of growth in the congregation during that time. Our Annual Homecoming was well attended. Brother Dana Slingluff, who spent many of his youthful years in Mansfield, was our speaker. We will host our first Friday Night Sing on May 20th. Our Homecoming is being combined with a Gospel Meeting October 9-12 with brother J. D. Conley doing the preaching. As a familiar hymn teaches, “There is much to do, there’s work on every hand.” With God’s help we hope to see further increase in the church here, spiritually and numerically. –Don Cooper, 95 Lynn Dr.

GALION, OH 44833 – “Though our time was much too short, we did enjoy meeting you, Nancy, and the rest of the brethren at Salem … We really appreciate the WV Christian paper and the effort that is evident by everyone involved in spreading the word of our Lord. We pray with you that He will continue to bless that work which is so needed in these days.” – Yours in Him, Lawrence and Beulah Montgomery. - 3905 County Road 31.
