Green Box

Albert E. Farley

When God destroyed the world with water and saved Noah and his family, He brought them from the ark and made this covenant with mankind: “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” When the Lord tried Abraham with the command to offer his only son Isaac upon a mountain in Moriah, Abraham obeyed through faith. With his son on the altar and with his knife in his hand, Abraham was stopped by the angel of the Lord! The angel said, “Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou anything unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.” When Abraham looked around, he saw a ram caught in the thicket. He took the ram and offered it for a burnt offering instead of his son. Abraham called the name of the place, “Jehovah-jireh,” which means, “The LORD will provide.”

Today, when man begins to worry about “the green-house effect” and the depletion of fuels by the population of the world, and when we begin to fret about “What are we going to eat?” or “What are we going to wear?” we all need to remember Who is in charge of this creation! When the Lord created the heavens and the earth, He surely knew what man was going to do and what man was going to need. The current Marcellus Shale gas drilling boom that is now mushrooming around us ought to reassure us that God has supplied – and will supply – the needs of His creation. Certainly, we, as good stewards of God’s bounty, must not be wasteful and slothful; we must properly use and regulate God’s gifts to us.

Our greatest need is the forgiveness of sins and the salvation and hope that is in Jesus Christ! Jehovah-jireh! The LORD will provide! Through faith in Christ, repentance from sin, confession of our faith, and baptism into Christ, our sins are washed away in His precious blood, and He adds us to His saved body, the church.

We know in whom we have believed and are persuaded that He is able to keep that which we have committed unto Him against that day! He has promised if we will seek, first, His kingdom and His righteousness, all these “things” will be added to us! Do you trust God?
