It's Going To Be Great!

Terry G. Jones

Right now, I hope that you will go to your calendar and circle September 25-28, 2011. That is the dates for the Twelfth Annual West Virginia Christian Lectureship, and you will not want to miss it.

The church of Christ in Pennsboro, West Virginia, has the privilege of hosting the lectures this year and is excited to do so. Every one of the previous lectures has been great, and there is no reason to believe that this one will be any different. Everything possible is being done to make it the best it possibly can be.

It will be great because of its theme. The theme chosen for this event will be, “Oh How I Love Your Law!” – A Study of Psalm 119. The answer to every problem, every predicament, and every form of wickedness in this world is found in the Bible. To be happy, people need to turn to the Bible. The psalmist connects loving God’s Law with successfully living in God’s world. Psalm 119 is one of the great chapters in the Bible and unique in all of literature.

It will be great because of its topics. Twenty-five lessons will be presented from Psalm 119 that will enumerate a multitude of blessings that are enjoyed by those who love God’s Law and live by it. You can refer to the lectureship schedule printed elsewhere in this publication for the exact lesson topics.

It will be great because of its speakers. Sixteen different speakers, hailing from five different states, will appear on the program this year. All of them are well known for their doctrinal soundness and their devoted service to the Lord. Three of the keynote speakers hail from the state of Tennessee. Marlin Connelly is from Nashvillle, James Watkins from Lewisburg, and Clarence DeLoach from Cookeville. David Pharr of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Wade Webster from Southaven, Mississippi, and Charles Pugh III of Vienna, West Virginia, will also serve as keynote speakers. Several speakers on the program are from right here in the Ohio Valley, such as, Albert Farley, Randy Baker, Frank Higginbotham, Charles Aebi, Roger Rush, Andy Robison, Dan Kessinger, and Terry Jones. Also, we are delighted to have Nita Faye Leach and Imogene Aebi teaching the classes for the ladies.

It will be great because of its purpose. There are three major goals that we endeavor to accomplish with this lectureship. First, it will be our priority to Exalt God and His Word. What better way to achieve that than with an intense focus upon the chapter in the Bible that, more than any other, exalts the Bible and its Author? “Seven times a day I praise You, because of Your righteous judgments” (Ps. 119:164). Second, it will be our purpose to Edify the saints. “I am a companion of all those who fear You, and of those who keep Your precepts” (Ps. 119:63). The WVC Lectureship provides an opportunity for saints to gather from far and near, and to be edified and energized. Third, it will be our purpose to Educate the lost. “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word” (Ps. 119:9). This is an evangelistic effort, and great emphasis is being placed upon reaching the lost.

It will be great because of you! You can make it even greater by being in attendance. The more who attend, the greater it will be. Let’s be honest. You can have the greatest theme, topics, speakers, and purpose, but it will only benefit those who attend. The more who attend, the greater it will be.

Now get out that calendar and make your plans to attend the West Virginia Christian Lectureship. It’s going to be great! -206 E. Penn Avenue, Pennsboro, WV 26415.
