Ten Statements From God About Baptism

Vernon W. Kerns

1. Baptism is in water. “And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?” (Acts 8:36)

2. Baptism is for remission of sins. “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” (Act 2:38)

3. Baptism is a command. “And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.” (Acts 10:48)

4. By baptism, we enter into Christ’s death. “Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?” (Romans 6:3)

5. Baptism is a burial. “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6:4)

6. Baptism is a resurrection. “For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:” (Romans 6:5)

7. Baptism puts us into Christ. “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” (Galatians 3:26-27)

8. Baptism is an action of faith. “Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.” (Colossians 2:12)

9. In baptism, our sins are washed away. “And now, why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.” (Acts 22:16)

10. Baptism saves us. “The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 3:21)

Many times we hear or are taught that baptism is not essential for salvation. Is it wise to disagree with God? “For our God is a consuming fire.” (Hebrews 12:29) – 2259 Tanner Fork Road, Shock, WV 26638. 304-364-5460.
