Why I am a Member of the Church of Christ

"BECAUSE IT GIVES SCRIPTURAL ANSWERS TO THE QUESTION, WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?"

by: Bill Cantrell

Introduction.
The Question asked and answered.
Examples of Conversions.
Conclusion.

INTRODUCTION.

1. This is the most important question that a person could possibly ask. Why? Because it deals with the souls of men.  It deals with life and death, heaven and hell etc.

2. A consideration of some important words:

A. "WHAT" This word suggests that there is something required of man in being saved. The Bible in numerous passages support the conclusion that salvation is conditional.

Matt 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.(KJV)

Heb 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;   9  And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; (KJV)

Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (KJV)

Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. (KJV)

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.   (KJV)

1Peter 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: (KJV)

B. "MUST" This word suggest that it is mandatory, imperative, or obligatory. It is not a question of what should or may I do; but rather what must I do! It does not belong in the realm of opinion, but in the realm of necessity.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.  4  Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?  5  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.  6   That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7  Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. (KJV)

C. "I" This word indicates that it is personal. It is not something that God, Christ or the Holy Spirit must do, nor is it something that someone else must do for me, it is rather something that I must do. This word makes it an individual responsibility in the blessing of redemption.

D. "DO" This word suggest activity. Individuals are not
completely passive in human redemption.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.  39  For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.  40   And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.  (KJV)

Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ:  for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.   (KJV)

James 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. (KJV)

E. "TO BE SAVED" This phrase denotes the end result once the stipulated conditions are meet. The word does not suggest that one saves himself. This can not be done.

Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; (KJV)

But rather one is saved by God through Christ.

1John 4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. (KJV)

When the individual complies with the conditions of salvation set forth by the Holy Spirit in the pages of
divine revelation.

3. Let us lay aside what men have said and focus our attention on what the Bible says about this most important question.

I. THE QUESTION ASKED AND ANSWERED.

A. The question "WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?" Was asked
three times in the New Testament.

1. Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?  38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.  39  For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.   40   And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.   41  Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.   42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.  43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.  44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;  45 And sold their  possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.   46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. (KJV)

The Jews on the day of Pentecost.

a. Peter had preached the first recorded gospel sermon beginning in verse fourteen of Acts Chapter Two. He shows that what transpired on that day was in fulfillment of Joel's prophecy.

Acts 2:14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:  15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.   16  But this is that which was spoken
by the prophet Joel;  17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall
prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:   18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:       19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:  20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:  21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. (KJV)

b. Peter continued his speech by focusing on the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. He showed how they had by wicked (lawless) hands had killed the Son of God, and that God had raised him from the dead and glorified him by sitting him on the throne of David at his (God's) own right hand, in fulfillment of the prophecy of Joel.

Acts 2:22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words;  Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:  23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:   24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.  25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:   26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:  27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.  28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.  29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.   30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;  31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. 32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof
we all are witnesses.  33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.   34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,  35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool.   36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. (KJV)

c. When some of the people present that heard this "they were pricked in their hearts, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and Brethren, what shall we do?"

d. The answer comes loud and clear "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the
Holy Ghost.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (KJV)

2. The second time we find the question is in Acts the ninth chapter.

a. In Acts nine the question is asked by a man known as Saul later known as Paul. This man as Saul is first seen as a persecutor of the church.

Acts 26:10 Which thing I also did in Jerusalem:  and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them.  11  And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto
strange cities. (KJV)

Gal 1:13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it: (KJV)

He is first mentioned in connection with the death of Stephen and the persecution of the church in Jerusalem.

Acts 7:58 And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul.  59 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.   60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep. (KJV)

ACTS 8:1 And Saul was consenting unto his death.  And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.   2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. (KJV)

b. His persecution against the church was so intense that he desired and received letters from the High Priests to go into the synagogues in Damascus to bring back to Jerusalem, in chains,
those who were Christians. As he made his journey to Damascus he encountered the unexpected. He encountered the resurrected and glorified Christ.  The miraculous event did not save Saul, but he was told to go into the city and it would be told him what he must do.

Acts 9:6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. (KJV)

c. Saul went into the city and spent three days fasting and praying.

Acts 9:9 And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.  10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.   11 And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, (KJV)

And then by the mouth on Ananias came the answer to his question. It is recorded in,

Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
(KJV)

3. The third time we find this question asked is in the jail in Philippi.

Acts 16:19 And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,          20   And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city, 21 And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.
22 And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.  23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:    24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.
25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.   26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.   27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.   28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.  29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,  30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?   31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.  32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.  33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.   34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.   35 And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.   36 And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.   37  But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and
have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.  38 And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.  39 And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city.   40  And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed. (KJV)

a. Paul and Silas were imprisoned for healing a damsel [obsessed with a spirit of divination (soothsaying). They were cast into the inner prison and a guard placed there to watch them.  About midnight there was an earthquake. "All the doors were opened; and every one's bands were loosed". The jailor being aroused from sleep saw the prison doors opened. Assuming the prisoners
had escaped he drew his sword to take his life, he heard Paul bid "do thyself no harm for we are all here".

b. The jailor trembling with fear "fell down before Paul and Silas and said Sirs, what must I do to be saved"?

Acts 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? (KJV)

c. The account doesn't end here, for we have the response of Paul and Silas. They told him to "believe on the Lord Jesus and thou shalt be saved, and thy house".

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. (KJV)

They spake unto him the word of the Lord,

Acts 16:32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. (KJV)

and he the same hour of the night took them and
washed their stripes (indicating repentance) and
was baptized. Why was he baptized? For the same
reason Saul was,

Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
(KJV)

and for the same reason people on Pentecost were.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (KJV)

d. The answer to the question today "WHAT MUST I DO
TO BE SAVED"? Today is the same as it was in the afore mentioned accounts.

II. EXAMPLES OF CONVERSIONS

(There are several accounts of conversion in the book of Acts. In consideration of the
question "what must I do to be saved"? One should study these accounts of conversion).

A. They were told to "REPENT and be BAPTIZED everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the REMISSION OF SIN".

16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;  17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:  18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:        19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:  20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:  21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.   22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:        23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:   24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.  25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw
the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:   26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:  27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. 37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?   38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.  39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.   40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.  41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. (KJV)

B. The people of Samaria believed and was baptized.

Acts 8:5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them.  6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.   7   For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.   8   And there was great joy in that city.  9 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:  10 To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.  11 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.        12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.      13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done. (KJV)

C. The eunuch believed, confessed and was baptized.

Acts 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.      36  And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?  37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.  38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still:  and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.        39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. (KJV)

D. Saul was baptized.

Acts 9:17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.  18  And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. (KJV)

It was to wash away sin.

Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. (KJV)

E. Cornelius believed and was baptized.

Acts 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:   35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.       36  The word which God sent unto the children
of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ:  (he is Lord of all:) 37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;        38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.  39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:      40  Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;  41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.   42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.  43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.        44  While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.   45   And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.   46  For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,       47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?  48  And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. (KJV)

F. The jailor believed and was baptized.

Acts 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?  31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.   32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.   33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.  34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house. (KJV)

G. Lydia attended unto the things spoken by Paul and was
baptized.

Acts 16:13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.   14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.  15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us. (KJV)

H. When all conversion accounts are considered, we have revealed the complete answer to the question.

1. One must hear the gospel.

Acts 16:14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul. (KJV)

Rom 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (KJV)

John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.  45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. (KJV)

2. One must believe the gospel.

Heb 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that
obey him; (KJV)

John 8:21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come. (KJV)

Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (KJV)

3. One must repent of sin.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (KJV)

Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.  4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?  5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. (KJV)

4. One must confess the deity of Christ.

Acts 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. (KJV)

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (KJV)

5. One must be immersed (baptized).

Mark 16;16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (KJV)

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (KJV)

Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. (KJV)

1Peter 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: (KJV)

CONCLUSION

1. The answer to the question "what must I do the be saved"?  Is extremely important. Thus in view of its importance the answer must be sought in the word of God, not in the
creeds and manuals of men.

2. It is not enough to do something, we must do what the word of God stipulates. The answer is clear. It is simply a matter of having the faith and courage to obey.

Heb 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;   9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; (KJV)
