Doctrine And The DO In It by Charles C. Pugh III

E. Claude Gardner

President Emeritus, Freed-Hardeman University

The full title of this book, Doctrine And The DO In It, authored by Charles C. Pugh III, ties "doctrine" and the application of it. This idea is illustrated by the book of Romans in that the first eleven chapters stress "doctrine," and the rest of the book is practical. Brother Pugh's book integrates both plans in a skillful way.

It is a true statement that "one should not read without writing nor should one write without reading." Charles C. Pugh III qualifies on both points. This is evident in the large number of books he cites at the end of each of the 13 chapters. His writings indicate he is conversant with a large number of relevant volumes.

His book has a clear Bible message. At the end of the volume he lists 12 pages of Bible passages he cites. Brother Pugh inserts pertinent illustrations that enhance the application of the truth being presented.

Brother Pugh includes timely themes that will strengthen the Christian and the church. They deal with topics that currently confront the brotherhood. His book would be ideal to use in a Bible class for a quarter. Preachers, including the experienced, will find it helpful in using new approaches to presenting the truth. Some of the challenging chapters relate to authority, worship, the church, and preaching.

The book is not outline, but narrative. However, each section is logically developed with some outlines.

This book, which was written by a talented preacher, a skillful writer, and a clear expounder of the Scriptures, is highly recommended. It may be ordered from Charles C.
