Taking Children To Church

Ginny Lallance

Mothers and grandmothers, as you get the children ready for church services, does it matter where they go? Does it matter that on one street you'll find a Baptist church, around the corner a Catholic church, and across town people will be going to the Methodist church or any number of denominational churches? On streets in every city and town throughout our nation we can see buildings bearing many different church names. So, does it matter where children are going to church? Some say, "Just as long as they go it doesn't matter." Children are being taught one church is as good as any other. Does it matter that Christ said in Matthew 16:18 that He would build His church? Does it matter that the church children attend has creeds, laws, doctrines, and practices of worship thought up in the minds of men? (Revelation 22:18-19) Does it matter what the preacher is called, in some cases, "Father" (Matthew 23:19), or that there is a woman in the pulpit? (1 Timothy 2:12) Children are being taught just to accept Jesus into their hearts, and they'll be saved. Does it matter that, in Mark 16:16 and Acts 2:38, we are told what we must do to be saved? Does it matter that children are being entertained by choirs, praise teams, instruments of music instead of following God's way of worshipping Him in song? (Colossians 3:16, Ephesians 5:19) Does it matter that the church children go to disregards what God says about homosexuality? (Leviticus 18:22 and Romans 1:24-27) Does it matter if children are attending churches that don't teach that marriage is between a man and a woman as God designed it to be? Are the churches children attend remembering Jesus' death on the cross each first day of the week or just on holidays, periodically, or whenever the preacher or creed-book says to observe the Lord's Supper - or not at all? Read Acts 20:7.

Does any of this matter to the souls of children? It should and it must because the church children go to for their spiritual training and knowledge could result in where they spend eternity! Think of children growing up in a church where obedience to God's Word is not being followed, where they are being told one church is as good as another. If the souls of children are really important to you, if you truly love children, then it will matter when you get your children ready for church. It will matter that Christ established His church. It will matter that the church of Christ had its beginning over two thousand years ago. See Acts, chapter two. It will matter that the church of Christ is the one and only church we read about in the New Testament. It will matter that Christ is the head of His church, that He bought her with His blood, gave her His name, set forth the plan of salvation for being added to His church a plan that means when Jesus said, "If you love me, keep my commandments," we must do just that. John 14:15. We can't let men pick and choose certain verses as they preach false doctrine week after week to our children and never tell them the Bible truths that will lead them to heaven. On the contrary, men and women filling the pulpits across America will be doing the opposite, and what will be the result?

Does it matter where our children are going to church? It should and it must! -Rt. 2 Box 177, Belington, WV 26250. mrmrsl@meer.net
