The Rejected Christ

Isaiah 53:3

INTRODUCTION:
1. The prophets foretold many things concerning Christ. One of the striking things of our text is that he would be "Rejected."
2. It certainly came true; He was "Rejected" by his own people. Jno. 1:11.
3. But the Jews had a history of rejecting and killing those whom God had sent to them. See the parable told in MT. 21:33-42.
4. But the "Rejection" has not ended! Many, today, continue to despise and reject him. In more subtle ways, but rejection just the same.

I. HIS NAME IS DESPISED AND REJECTED.
1. Many religious people choose to call themselves by "less honorable names."
2. Christ's name is above every name. Phil. 2:9-11.
3. There is salvation in "none other." Acts 4:11, 12.
4. Some say, "Nothing in a name." Attach human names to churches.
5. Wearing of human names condemned. 1 Cor. 1:10-13; 3:1-4.
6. Wear his name proudly! Acts 11:26; 1 Pet. 4:16.

II. HIS AUTHORITY IS REJECTED.
1. He has "All Authority." MT. 28:18.
2. All are obligated to hear him. MT. 17:1-5; Acts 3:22, 23.
3. He is God's spokesman. Heb. 1:1, 2.
4. Some accept authority of Pope, Luther, Wesley, etc., and the rulings of synods, conferences, etc.
5. All such rejecting condemned. Jno. 12:48.

III. HIS CHURCH IS REJECTED.
1. HE BUILT IT. MT. 16:18; and "PURCHASED IT WITH HIS BLOOD." Acts 20:28
2. It is his "body." Eph. 1:22, 23; There is only ONE. Eph. 4:4. And he is its SAVIOR. Eph. 5:23.
3. He adds the saved to it. Acts 2:47.
4. What hope does one have who rejects the Lord's church?

IV. HIS GOSPEL IS REJECTED.
1. But it is God's saving power. Rom. 1:16; 1 Cor. 15:1, 2.
2. Some reject it for "Tradition," MT. 15:3; and for the "Doctrines and Commandments of men." MT. 15:9.
3. Such render worship vain. MT. 15:9. Don't be ashamed of gospel.

V. HIS HIGH MORAL AND ETHICAL STANDARD OF LIFE IS REJECTED.
1. He calls for "Sober," "Righteous," and "Godly" living. Tit. 2:11, 12.
2. He calls for separation from "unclean" things. 2 Cor. 6:17.
3. "Be not deceived, the unrighteous will not inherit kingdom of God." 1 Cor. 6:9, 10.

VI. HIS PLAN OF SALVATION IS REJECTED.
1. His plan: Mark 16:15, 16; Acts 2:38; 22:16.
2. The Lord's way is rejected for "Faith only," "Prayer," etc.
3. He is the Savior; He knows what works; Trust him.

CONCLUSION: It ill behooves us to shout condemnation across the centuries to those who rejected Christ, when we reject him today.
