Green Box

In a study released by Pew Research Center two months ago, almost four in ten Americans (39 percent) now believe that marriage is obsolete. Twenty-eight percent believed this in 1978. Now, almost 30 percent of children under 18 live with a parent or parents who are unwed or no longer married. This is five times larger than it was in 1960. Fifteen percent of children now live with parents who are divorced or separated; fourteen percent live with a parent or parents who were never married. Fifty-two percent of adults 18 years old and over are not married. This is an all-time-low for married couples. (AP, The Exponet-Telegram, Nov 18, 2010) Andrew Cherlin, a professor of sociology and public policy at Johns Hopkins University said, “Now there are several ways to have a successful family life, and more people accept them … People are rethinking what family means … I think we need to accept cohabitation relationships as a basis for some of the fringe benefits offered to families …”

Are we still wondering what is wrong with America? A strong family and home are the basis for any successful society. Strong families are the basis for strong congregations of the Lord’s church. The Bible says, “Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” Heb 13:4. Christ said whoever puts away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, commits adultery: and whoever marries her who is put away commits adultery.” Mt 19:9.

Dear friends, we do not accept “cohabitation relationships.” God is not mocked. We will reap what we sow. If we sow to the flesh, we will reap eternal damnation. If we sow to the wind, we will reap the whirlwind. On the other hand, if we sow to the Spirit, we shall reap eternal life. When we let God join us together in marriage and when we let the Lord add us to His church, we will find the true, abundant life – here and in the hereafter! Our circulation last month was 2,829. Thank you all! -Albert.
